Hi Phil,
great clipper! It seems to be a twin of mine.
My bus was build in June 1971. Same colour, 7-seater etc.
I do not know very much about the history of my bus. But the M-Plate tells a little bit.
My Bus was build in Emden and shipped directly to the states (California).
In the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016 it came via Netherlands to Europe.
New paint (original colours) outside.
I bought the bus one year ago, in january 2017.
In the summer we have been in Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm) and in october at Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Greetings from Bremen in Germany

I like it. I have the same deluxe trim (I installed).
I think the factory Clippers were actually over by the time your Bus was built. VW got sued by PanAm and that seems to have ended the offering.
You should be able to polish that bumper trim to a mirror finish.

Hi Phil,
yes, it's a Clipper, but an US-Clipper, there are some differences to the German Clipper. You have a German Clipper, there's more chrome inside on the sidepanals, for example.
Here's a photo of my bus:
I want to add the Clipper bumper trim.
But it is not easy to get.
I found replicas in the Netherlands and in the UK (webshop), little bit expensive. |

The way I understand it is that ALL deluxes were called Clippers, but the special ones are the Clipper L (German Clipper). The cool bumper trim, extra chrome strips on interior panels, jail bars, chrome luggage bar on rear seat, clock in the dash, all features of the Clipper L. There's actually two different kinds of the bumper trim. The early Clipper L's (68-69) had this style, which resembles the trim that early splitty deluxes had:
The 70/71 Clipper L's, the bumper trim is more flattened out, where the early ones are rounded. I think those repro ones are the later style, if I'm thinking of the same ones you're talking about. _________________ 1968 Deluxe "Clipper L" Type 2

Hi djdh68dlux,
yes, you're right.
at least I got and added the cool bumper trim on my bus and now it's more a twin to the sold Clipper L of Phil.
It's the newer, bigger and more flattened trim – correct for my 1971 Clipper.
