Time to fire up the camera, sounds like a Vanagon heat exchanger, if it is the ports on the heads will limit what you can fit to your engine.

Someone has modified a Vanagon part with oval flanges and a reoriented air inlet.

No, that's a 75-78 system, it'll fit if you replace everything as well as some of the tin under the engine, but if you only need a LH heat exchanger it's best to find one for a 72-74.
Like this one: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2138266 Not sure why the seller says "not for 74 1800", likely because it lacks the EGR pipe, if you aren't running EGR that won't matter.

Look front to rear from here.

You'll also need the tube to connect it (long L shaped one) here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2097384

the oval hole are front to rear ok but not on the good side for my tin i need a round hole output for this side of heat exchanger
that's my problem
sure i can modify it
is it because the only heat exchanger with the hole (round left and oval right) are for 75-78 with manifold

The RH one in that ad is wrong for your bus, but the long kinked LH one has a round top and oval bottom just like you need.

The auxiliary fan is only effective at idle speeds and then only marginally effective. With all the leaks that a typically auxiliary fan setup has, the fan itself barely makes up for the losses. I haven't run an auxiliary fan in nearly three decades at this point in time and don't miss it a bit. There are ways that you can get far more air to the cab at all times than getting the marginally effective original system auxiliary fan setup working. A Dayton blower mounted up under the defroster/heater tree will give you maybe twice the heat up front as the wimpy factory setup, and by changing where the one heat exchanger dumps its hot air into the cab you can get around 4 times the heat into the cab as the stock setup.

This thread has lots of ideas:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=371749

You can also search the threads of a Samba user named Duncwarw, he had a lot of good ideas.
