The home made automotive carpet is cut and installed! This feeeeeels great.

For the aluminum threshold trim I used 3M VHB tape because I did not want to drill holes in my sill.

Yes, the hood lock is installed, and replaced, and reinstalled, and adjusted, and readjusted.

Yes, it has finally submitted to functioning after repeatedly locking me out in half-latched aggression against its master.

Yes, I am allowed to feel.

I dont honestly know! Laughing

I do agree this has turbo written all over it. I also have a 2.0, Type 4, 914 engine and am reading up on that conversion. The possibilities swim around in circles in my brain, but they all require research for me.

Right now I happen to have, I think, everything I need to assemble a fresh stock 1600 dual port. That will be the quickest path to launch it on the roads. Then, I can toy with building an engine with the performance parts and swap the engine out when one that is more appropriate to the looks of the car is ready to rock and roll. I have built a few stock engines now so there is no research involved in that move and I can knock it out fairly quickly. With a performance build I have a learning curve ahead of me that I want to enjoy at my leisure.

So, at first the plan is it will be a sheep in wolf's clothing (like the old Ghia advertisement).

Unfortunately one of the byproducts of repeatedly pausing on a project is its parts tend to get harvested.... in this case the engine I had been bombing around with got planted in the 61 Tukis and I'll have to build another one now. At least it won't be my first time through it! Very Happy

So you have been very cagey with regard to the engine for this car. As far as I have know.

Do you plan on using one of those five camshafts and Weber carbs that are on the shop shelf?
Or are you gonna finally install the Spa Turbo you bought a couple years ago?
I haven't forgotten that buy. Wink

IMO. A turbo charged engine in this car would be the icing on the cake! Cool

Looking fantastic Buggee. I'm confused though - isn't that a Mexican hood seal? What's the thing in the bag in the 1st picture?

I tried the generic clip-on door seal that seems to be marketed as a hood seal, and it was too bulky, and the hood would not close. So this is a smaller dimension generic stick-on door seal. That is it in the bag, and then on the hood.

If you run a search of automotive door seal on Amazon or Ebay you will find lots of interesting options.

Checking off the short list of exterior details...

I deleted the hood seal c-channel from the quarter panels, so I'm using an alternative seal.

I got this small adhesive door seal on Amazon and stuck it on the edge of the hood.

I had put the c-channel along the cowl so a normal seal went there and I trimmed off the parts that would have gone down the quarter panels.

One of the little attachment nibs broke off the seal as I was trying to shove it in the little hole. A plastic screw from an American truck engine bay fastener happened to fit perfectly so things kept rolling along. (This is a fine example of why I tell my kids that every home should have a nut-and-bolt jar)

The hood was adjusted at the hinges, the handle installed, and now she has a functioning bonnet. Smile

With a few minutes left before the evening's honey-do errands began, some bumper grommets dressed the rear.

Cool ass green. Opinion Here Very Happy

I think....I t woold look awesome with the chrome strip on the running board to flow with the shine on the wheels. It would give it that line.

Plus with full bumpers, it would really stand out. Chrome down low wrapped around that green with the black. BAM Very Happy

Looking good, nice job! I love the nerf bars. It might look cool if you did a satin black pinstripe where the OG trim would have been to tie the hood and decklid together.

Food for thought Smile Thank you Rome.

I've seen folks use these chunky nerf bars on various old Porsche rally builds for some reason. I like the way their shape is bulbous, like the nose of the Super Beetle. It's a fettish, I'll admit. Not for everybody I would imagine. Very Happy

Empi imitation 914 wheels. The baby Fuchs, if you will. I love these because it's like driving around a full sized Hot Wheels toy. Very Happy
