Hi all
Looking at painting the wood veneer on my westy ,
(Not my idea), looking for a way to paint with the option of going back to original some day, looking for ideas on what to apply prior to painting so that it won't damage the veneer.
Thanx for looking
Chris

you'd be better off with a vinyl wrap imho....the prep to make paint stick will destroy the finish

I've spent the last 6 months removing, cleaning, relaminating, clamping and glueing my Berlin interior. I've picked off stickers and bad glue repairs for hours on end, and I still have my kitchen block frame to go. Untold hours there ahead of me.

I cringe at the thought of Dealing with some sort of paint job. It seems to be there are furniture pieces on then classifieds that are missing the laminate? Paint what's leftover of pieces that have already lost their originality?

There was some aged out brittle drawer sheeting that was glued over the wall of my closet piece. I sat and picked at that over three days but the laminate was preserved, so skills option is way better than paint. Modern body wraps may be easier to remove, but I won't ever know.

My veneer is in good condition, a little faded in some spots.
Thinking of covering over with a thin piece of ply or similar ,
I can attach it with very small nails then I can go to town with the paint brush!!
I'm only doing the side cupboard

says it's "Not his idea"
so this is a SHMBO scenario
and ladies don't like old and dingy abodes.
kick her to the curb, find one who's not so picky. you'll be happier in the long run.

You could up grade that 70's wood look to a 80's look with a roll of wall paper, could even paint over the wall paper.

If the laminate is in generally good condition, just a bit faded, you could try refurbishing it with some furniture polish or something. Use contact cement instead of nails to reattach it where needed. Definitely don't paint it.
