I have a 73 Thing, and I ordered a CB disk brake kit with dropped spindles. Before I get started tomorrow I'd like to know, do I have to replace the Thing torsion arms with beetle torsion arms, or can I just mount the dropped spindles on my Thing arms? I hear Thing torsion arms are different? Tell me it ain't true?

Since Thing ball joints are different than those on a Beetle, I imagine you will need Beetle Ball joints to use the CB kit. Since Beetle ball joints are oriented differently than Thing ball joints, it is very possible that you will also need Beetle torsion arms, which hopefully will fit your Thing torsion springs in the front axle tubes. Additionally, you will need 15 inch wheels for those disc brakes.
Good luck, Mondshine
