Thanks, Herman. We've been using Euro R&Ps that seem pretty good quality. Time will tell .. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

Paul,
This is great to see quality parts being manufactured for our transaxles.
My spare fresh rebuilt transaxle just got boxed and stored in the back of the shop for a long time I hope.
I will be interested in purchasing these gear sets shortly. For future rebuilds.
It would be great to also see a new main shaft, R&P, main shaft bearing, and all the other developments you are working on come to life. So that when I do another rebuild, I can install all quality parts.
Thanks for your concerted efforts to keeping these vans on the road.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jael ..
Yes, I do plan to make a run of mainshafts / idlers with the same F1 tooth profile on 1st & 2nd gears as are featured on GT 3rds & 4ths. They'll of course be tricked out for full oiling options, and probably be available in a couple different ratio combos. I'll probably experiment with a dogged option (sans synchronizers), at least for my own Syncro.
A billet G gear housing is probably in the works, with intermediate housing to follow. All these HD parts should tie together nicely with the mods various Samba members have already been doing.
If we need to make R&P sets late this year, we will .. but for now I'm pretty happy with the Euro sets we've recently inventoried. The first three installed nicely. Time will tell. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

Thanks for the kind words, guys .. You can see how the synchro cone is splined onto the idler gear with coarse Porsche-style splines. No more cracked bores. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

Damn Paul, that are some sweet a$$ gears
Mahalo for never settling on existing product quality and always trying to improve our boxes
I just came across this thread as I'm about a week from installing the engine/transmission in my Syncro
I'll keep those in mind when I rebuild the box next time, by that time, more products will be available hopefully, and I'll build something even better thanks to your products
I wish you all the best with these, I'll pass the word along on the french forum, I know guys are starting to have issues there too :/ _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

I'm happy to report that gear sales are sufficient to warrant continued production of these high quality gears .. so I finally got off my butt and created a Samba ad (link below). It has a few details I left out of this thread.
Please note that our gear warranty (yes, we seem to be the only company in the U.S. to warranty gears) is for double the mileage at which the other brands fail. We fully expect GT VW gears to last well over 100K in any application.
Any Sambanistas who purchased through a shop may wish to register directly with us via e-mail (although I sincerely doubt there will ever be a need for our warranty).
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2041168
Edit* Mr. Rüdinger also offers the same warranty on his fine toothed gears (shown on the left in the photo below). I suspect we'll sell as many Rüdinger gears as our own GT gears over the coming year, as they make an excellent lower cost alternative. I'll be making separate ads for Rüdinger's gears and very nice R&P sets.

Brilliant! This is great news for the community! I suspect any offerings available for 2wd folks will also be popular and sell well. Those running SVXs come to mind. When considering the cost of a rebuild overall, and for many people, the labor time to R&R, adding a few hundred dollars to the bottom of the bill is well worth the extra cost. Consider too the added longevity of these gears, and the initial upfront cost becomes pocket change per mile. They basically will pay for themselves over time. I feel folks would be foolish NOT to invest in these upgraded gears.

I've discovered a new malady: Gear Envy
I'll have to ask for forgiveness for this.
Then again, looking at a pile of parts setting on my bench, I'm now starting to consider taking back my pop cans and see what I can come up with....

I've had requests for updates, so here's the latest:
We're almost sold out of our first run of 3rd & 4th gears, so for our 2nd run, we've doubled up on the most popular ratios.
Slider hubs are almost completed, and we expect these to last twice as long as others on the market (100K mile warrantee against excessive wear).
1st/2nd/mainshafts are in early stage of production, and will be available in two versions (for now):
3.78 x 2.06
3.33 x 1.94
These will already have provisions for oiling of 3rd, 4th, and mainshaft needle bearings.
We decided to make our 1sts & 2nds with the same F1 tooth profile as our 3rds & 4ths, rather than just making another stock mainshaft.
There are some other parts in the works that should be available in the near future. (Our goal of making a durable Syncro transaxle will obviously benefit the 2WD guys with big engines, too.)
It's gratifying to be back in the business of high quality parts .. everyone seems to love our GT VW gears :^) _________________ aka Pablo, Geary
