Yeah, that was probably me, short, mid-50-ish, more like dirty gray hair. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

I was GOING to drive to work this morning, but the local Parking Enforcement lady told me she was instructed to start ticketing no front plates.
When I bought the bug a few years ago, it didn't come with a front plate. I've tried at least 6 times with Ca DMV to get the on-line request going. I'm missing something, even copying the VIN and my name from the registration, they say I'm not correct. So I will have to actually GO to a DMV office on Friday (in the bug!) |

Road trip to Miami is underway...this time via the Amtrak auto train...scary to watch these guys drive it onto the train. I'll be lucky if he didn't burn out the clutch. And they make you sign a waiver for a classic car...ugh. I may be driving all the way on the return trip.

Ask and ye shall receive. No great shots today, to tir d from the train and heat. But here is the odometer hitting 11k as I approached bOrlando after leaving the train (car unscathed thankfully...or luckily).
Mileage when I arrived at the old folks home in Miami.
A quick impromptu photo opp snuck in at a random parking lot on the way somewhere off the turnpike.
And FL air conditioning. Thank the gods for FL thunderstorms and torrential rains. Made it a bit less torturous in the June heat. 95* with humidity making it feel like 150*.
Now I'm back it, picking up my niece at the airport who insisted I do so in the Bug. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

Yesterday I took off for the fairgrounds looking for whatever, usually a flea market or a gun show or even horses. I was in for a big surprise when I got there and found Mecum Auto Auction had come to town. Jeez this thing is huge with hundreds of cars and for gear heads its nirvana. The building formerly known as IPE was the largest free standing structure like this in the world when it was built around 1966, several others larger now exist around the world. Of course I took a picture or two.😀 oh and its been hot here about 97 today but Im still driving this yellow car like I stole it.
This is the upper level but theres a lower level beyond that
The lower level with staging area to run cars across the block.
This was sold Friday
See anything missing here?
Another car for sale
This is what caught my eye
It sold for 13.5 on Friday.
This also got my attention
This whole auction thing cranked up early about 930 and I noticed bidders and spectators can get any alcoholic beverage within minutes to ease the stress of buying cars. I loved it all 😀
So my car saw double duty this weekend getting used both days. I only wish it had AC because its getting toasty around here. |

Wow, a Type 34 in that shape for only 13.5??
Speaking of hot, drove to Key Largo today...a typical June afternoon...I make the drive then I'm too hot to bother stopping at a really nice spot for pics. But it was "nice" and breezy, would have been beautiful day to actually jump in the water.
Btw, I'm using the tennis ball trick to prop open the decklid. A kong dog toy tennis ball that's about 1.5x a normal tennis ball.
This is on the drive to KL.

Pictures dont show the really bad paint job, pitted chrome and rust bubbling under the paint. This car needed some serious work. It is a 63 and it is in the registry |

Got the bug out for the first time in a couple months, been having an intermittent soft brake pedal- think I've got an air bubble from the last brake job floating around in there.
Got the Motive power bleeder to try this time around. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle

Bill Baggins state park in key Biscayne, known to us here as "El farito" ( the little light for the lighthouse).
No pics of El farito because there's no where to park the car near it. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

Yep it's part of a set that includes a black stripe that goes back to under the rear side window and wraps across the roof to the other side and door. I think it's an 80s set. Slow going putting it on because the stickum on the outside of the pieces doesn't peel off cleanly (old and somewhat dried out) and takes time to clean off after laying down the sticker. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

More questions about the Vamram Super:
Is that a real 76 ball on the antennae?
How old is it?
Where did you get it?
The Florida pictures are great. Plz keep them coming. _________________ 1956 Beetle Ragtop: My Father's car

The 76 ball is probably about 7 years old and I don't remember where I got it. I did buy it new and I've seen spirit of 76 gas stations in CA so it*may* be authentic...but who knows??
My 93 y/o mom loves the super...says she'll help pay for an AC next Father's day...2022...

Another treck to Key Biscayne, this time around an area called Virginia Key.
A small section of downtown Miami seen across the hot haze of Biscayne Bay.
Headed back the mainlaind.

I went to the CVA Bug-A-Fair in Terryville CT on Sunday. It was a beautiful day with hundreds of cars to see. We passed through Hartford going West in the morning:
One of my favorites for the day, a Canary yellow early '70s Super convertible with a flat windshield and the 60's interior. The best of everything IMHO:
Here's UnitedRacings Beetle. His fine work on this car is noticeable. Beautiful everywhere and clean well sorted FI. You can see my car in the background under the arrow. Another River Blue '79 pulled up beside. We laughed about it and had a good time exchanging information.
Mexican Beetle:
These Daily Drivers were the only category under the trees with shade. They were fortunate. The owner of the green car did all the work you see, great colors:
This yellow Sports Bug lit up the area under the Sun:
