I've only slept 3 hours in the last 30 hrs, drove 500 miles today to deliver my Bay to new owners and bring the cash back to Tucson, am exhausted and broke now. But as of 735 pm tonight this bus became mine and is titled notarized and in my name, so now I can safely post pics. I'm very lucky to be the new caretaker. I had to sell several of my favorite VWs in 48 hrs and empty my bank account but I pulled it off. Not enough time or energy to tell the whole story right now, but my getting it is proof there's still honest, scrupulous people in this world and that being the most honest, decent person you can be is still the best policy. Anyhoo.....here is the good karma bus so I'm told by the very good lady who sold it to me.

That's a great score. Not often do you see a sub hatch 65', would love to see the mcode plate. Paint looks like it will buff out nicely. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Looks to be an SO-33 with an SO-23 kit installed.
Sweet bus. There are not many hatchtop velvet green buses out there. _________________ .

If you guys like dry undercarriage pics here's a few more. And a nose pic
I'm also going to post a pic of the nice lady with a pic of her son that tragically passed at an early age. The bus was in their family many years from 1995 til now. She is watching the thread so feel free to congratulate her on hanging onto it all these years and saving it for posterity. Her son was Evan and she's Lorraine. Nice folks! Her and her grandchildren have the first right of refusal so it might end up back with them someday.

This is interesting. No port code, no Westy code and no Westy paint code. This would make it just a normal German delivered Kombi that was taken to Westfalia after purchase for conversion.
Do you have any documentation from the previous owner(s) that could potentially back this up?

I thought they were all just normal Kombi's taken to Westfalia for conversion. So can I call this thing a Westy or is it an imposter? Lol
Some receipts for work done and stuff but nothing about who or when it was turned into a camper. |

A bus delivered to Westfalia by VW is mcoded as a Westy (or in rare cases of German delivered/no port code Westy's) at least has a Westy paint code (523xxx).
Anyone could purchase a bus from VW and then take it to Westfalia for any type of conversion work. There are actually many documented cases of this happening. Factory Westfalia conversions were in high demand with each dealer only getting a handful and waiting lists potentially long. Some customers chose to just purchase a bus and take it to Westfalia on their own so they did not have to wait. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches
