Bus looks to be in neutral but it is in gear or between gears. I jacked up the rear end start it up clutch in wheels don't move, start to let clutch out and wheels start to move. Ive tried sticking screwdriver through Tranny filler hole and move gears, they look to be forward. Ive bumped the bus still nothing. I move the shifter but can never hit a gear. Any ideas?

I'd bet you have an issue in the nose cone. Either a worn out ball or broken bracket. You'll need to drop the engine and transmission to get access. Pretty cheap repair if that's the problem.

you have, of course, checked the shifter coupler and the front shift rod bushing and where the shifter sets into the shift rod ball socket, to make sure they are not broken/missing parts/loose, correct?

don't go jamming a screwdriver into the trans, jeebus.

Lol, ya I didn't jam it in there just did what video says to do. I have made sure everything is connected but not worn. I vidoed the coupler while I was shifting and was only seeing the rod move in and out maybe an inch.

Of course you'd want to rule out all the easy stuff first before going into the nose cone. I can post pics later to show the parts that wear out of break.

food for thought: i was just working at a shop this week when a '73 bus got dragged in on a flatbed. symptom? bus won't shift, stuck in gear.
a 2 minute diagnosis found that the front shift rod bushing was gone allowing the rod to drop down, the shifter ball was falling out of the cup on the shift rod. shift lockout plate worn.
new bushing and better lockout plate installed, shifter cleaned up, greased. result: bus repaired quickly and inexpensively.

is this your problem? don't know, but it surely couldn't hurt to look under the shifter to see what's going on.
better than jamming a screwdriver in the trans trying to get stuff to move. and there's a video of this?

I've repaired about three transmissions where things went wrong in the nose cone. Here's a 1974 where the bracket broke and was welded

The front bushing is gone. The shifter ball doesn't seem to be falling out of the cup though. One thing I thought was weird was we could push the bus without the clutch in? We noticed the pulley moving while we where pushing and realized we took the 2x4 off of the clutch.is this normal or does this help to know what gear its in? If the only problem is the missing bushing or worn plate wouldn't we be able to just push the rod in and out by hand to get it out of gear?

It did ended up being the intermediate shift lever bracket that was broken.

For those that don't know what a intermediate shift lever bracket is.
The symptoms are usually. Everything is moving up front, but the transmission is stuck in gear or stuck in neutral.
