I've become a fan of the Ryobi brand 18 volt battery-operated tools.
I haven't needed to try it yet, but I've read about people using the batteries to charge up a flat car battery. Ryobi doesn't make a booster pack to use with the batteries, but the person said he held the jumper cables to the positive and negative sides of the battery and it worked OK. |
This saved me yesterday. I had actually rigged up an old single battery charge top to slide over the battery that I attached some clips to. this was made after reading this post long ago. not even a click from the bus battery, hooked up the Ryobi, jumped in, and she fired right up. soooo sweet not having to deal with getting a jump in a tiny camp lot. You know I was backed into it. |
That's great! I'm glad my post was able to help someone out. I still haven't tried it yet, but I saved an extra battery charger to cut up to make a connector at some point.
I bet you could make a connector to plug into the cigarette lighter to use in a pinch. I once drove a car a couple hundred miles with a marine battery sitting on the floor, feeding power into the lighter socket. Serpentine belt had broken late at night in desolate eastern Colorado late on a Sunday night and I had to get back for a job interview. _________________ Dave Cook

Since we agree that beer is just a part of your bus, I'll choose the Coleman dual fuel stove.

Well beer of course.
but, these things.
They are so freaking handy, plus no batteries, or charging. Just leave in the sun in the day and you are ready by night.
I like to put up a ridge line and hang a few from there with carabiners. _________________ -Zach

This is definitely going to be scaling down camping, as we also have a 26 foot bumper pull.
Kids and I are really looking forward to going this year in the bus. _________________ _______________________

Yes beer is like having gas. Booze is better like the nasty GINerator. Sorry not a big gin fan. Lynn makes home hooch from fruit that knocks your socks off.
1) Warm clothes you wont mind wearing for 2-3 days.
2) A plan to poo if there are no places provided. Like a seat and a bucket or bag.
3) comfy ass chairs to sit in outside.
4) shade like a cheap awning or tent.
5) Coffee press as mentioned are life savers (see booze)
6) Positive attitude. _________________

It's a Spacemaker, I bought it used locally of the interweb. It is similar to the Bus Depot Add-A-Room. It's kinda bulky when it is packed and takes up most of my Thule box. But is deffently worth it for multi day events, especially if there is going to be bad weather. _________________ __________
