I'm looking to sell my motor but I have no idea what it's worth. It's complete, tins, shroud, alternator, carburetor, manifolds, exhaust, etc.

$500? $300? $800?

generally worth more if buyer can hear it run, test drive. verses motor not running.

there are also logistics in shipping to consider. if your selling in california major city, verses the back woods in upper Alaska, you will get a better price, unless of course you got a nearby buyer in upper Alaska in need of a motor,

supply and demand is a local consideration seeing as shipping cost can be huge for a motor.

Good Luck.

Bug On!

Yeah, I'm just looking for a good estimate for selling it locally. Running motor. Is $500 reasonable?

$500-800 seems about right for me.

Do you already have a buyer & are trying to get an idea on value Or are planning on posting it for sale? If you're going to post it, start closer to the $800 range since everyone always wants to haggle.

300-500$, if the details are unknown and endplay is reasonable.

I mean....did you ever get this fixed? You never responded to that thread for resolution.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=683634

Diagnostic possibilities were:
Rod knock
Massive exhaust leak
Stripped out and 'spit out' spark plug
Multiple valvetrain problems
Poor compression in engine

If not...that isn't a healthy engine. That's one with suspect & questionable history/damage. This would be especially true if you have been running it like that for an entire year.

If you fired that engine up and it sounded like that, I would just say thanks for your time, but I'm not interested in that engine.

It's a core engine unless you've completely gone through that engine and it has been proven to be proper & within specs.

Yeah, that kinda changes everything.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for that engine as it sits now.
