I have a problem with cheap oil filters that come loose and drip oil. I was under my van today tightening and cleaning up oil when I must have knocked something loose that controls the idle. Now, I can start the van but when I take my foot off of the accelerator then the idle drops to zero and the engine stalls. Can anybody point me toward the wire that I must have knocked loose?

Thanks!

Nothing underneath you can knock loose that would keep it from running. What else did you do?

Hmmm, removed the wire from the O2 sensor? The O2 sender wire gets in the way of poking where you were poking and performance changes when it's disconnected. It attaches to the O2 sender screwed in or near your cat.

BTW, what engine are you dealing with? That can help with a diagnosis.

There are a few intake manifold air caps w/in a few inches of the oil filter on a bostig that will cause this symptom . (I may have missed engine info.)

I assumed a WBX engine.

I have a Subaru conversion with the Small Car kit.

I didn't mess with anything else. I swear.

Do you have a speed sensor connected to your CV joint? If so, check it out.

My dumb guess is that is has something to do with the connection that terminates near the CV joint on the driver's side – shown in the picture.

That looks like a cruise control pick up unit. There are magnets mounted to the CV joint. It counts revolutions.

That’s weird. I thought Subaru’s never break down. Wink

The image posted above is a small car speed sensor. It is connected to your ecu. If you “bumped” something, that is likely it. Search this forum for Subaru “VSS” for more info. Is your ecu throwing any codes?

Really?!?!?

That flimsy metal rod hanging out on the bottom where a branch or a lump of icy snow can dislodge it will kill this engine dead in the water?

Color me NOT impressed with this design!
One bolt on a slot? ..... seriously?

There is no speed reference at idle anyhow. I'd be looking for something else.
