Hi everyone,
I am trying to fit a 356A oil filler onto my 36HP engine.

I saw several old speed engine with the modification,
however I need help to understand how make this fit my 36hp case ?

Here are some picture of the oil filler I have:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It came with a 356 generator stand. Difference with a 36hp case is that the filler is just round and there is just one hole on the side to hold the filler on the case.

Any help or detailled pciture of the modification will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for help.

I did that for an engine I'm building. I'll snap a pic of it when I get back home next week.
In the meantime I will try to describe what I did.
First I cut out two pieces of 3/16" aluminum plate to roughly match the shape of the mount for the filler. One got a stepped hole bored in it which matches the nut that attaches the stock filler to the block.
Then I made a second plate with a hole bored in it to fit over the mount for the filler base. There are holes to mount the filler through both fabricated plates using bolts.
I oriented the filler on the block so it was level and plumb and screwed in the special mounting bolt to the plate and attached it to the block. It is necessary to grind on the special bolt to clearance it. Just make sure you leave enough of the slot to remove it if you need to.
I contoured the two plates so that when everything is assembled it is smooth and blends with the mou on the filler. I'm undecided whether to paint the adapter black to make it blend in or polish it.
The one issue that I have now is that the dump tube wants to go through the rear tin in a different place than stock , so I will need to modify the tin. I think that would be easier than modifying the tube.
Sorry for the long winded response. When I get pictures it will all be clear, I promise.
Found a pic in my Gallery that shows the adapter sandwich, but not how the special nut is modified.-

Here's another one-

Sorry, I didn't realize that a 36hp oil fill is not threaded. Embarassed

I did it on mine. You can look in my gallery I may have a picture. Take an exhaust flange, weld two nuts on it to bolt to the oil filler. Then weld a tab with a hole in it to the flange where it can be bolted onto the case like stock. I think I may have welded a sleeve in the inside of the flange so it fit snug to the case and snug to the outside diameter of the oil filler insert into the case. I will have to take a look. PM me if you need more info and some pictures.

Thanks, that is a picture of your engine:
If by chance you are able to get the custom flange off the engine and take several pictures. Using the exhaust flange seemed a good idea, I this is what I will try to do as well.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to give a good update on that thread.
I found an easy way to get a custom piece to hold the 356 oil filler by using a used J tube collector that I cut to about 1" from the end.
After that I have cut a custom bracket that a friend welded on the collector.
Now I just need to drill a hole on the bracket and use the screw from the original oil filler.

I will post additional pictures when the oil filler will be in place.
