I have a 65 Ghia which originally came with code 68 slate cloth inserts in the seats - sadly long since worn out and replaced. I've tried for the past 4 years to find a car which still has these seat covers to use as a reference to assist me finding the correct cloth.
The interior charts on this site aren't correct, at least not for 1965, and contradict the sales brochures of the day. The charts on here show a 'cross stitch' in a contrasting colour to the base cloth for 65. The sales brochures show a single colour in a 'tweed' weave. I'm happy that the brochures show the correct pattern but I cannot make out from the old photographs if slate is dark grey, dark blue, black or some other dark shade.
Slate cloth was 1965 only but standard fit on red, yellow and grey Ghia's and optional on blue, Sea Sand and white Ghia's (T1 and T3) so I'm hoping someone still has a car with them fitted? If they do, some photographs would be much appreciated. Thank you. |

I don't have any photos of what you're after unfortunately, but I do have a 1965 (dated 8/64) ghia brochure which shows the code 68 slate cloth. And as no one else has replied, here's some of the pages:
I can't see the same brochure in the archives, so hopefully this helps (I've scanned the brochure in full and will send it in for the archives). It shows what I believe you refer to as the cross stitch pattern in black / very dark grey, with a lighter grey stitch. From a distance (in a sales brochure photo?) it may look like a single colour.
Anyway, hope this is of some use. |

And here's another image from the same brochure - hopefully you can see that from a distance you'd never pick out the pattern in the cloth material:

The boast from ^^^ the brochure above ^^^ that "A 6' 9" basketball player even has no trouble" with regard to legroom sounds like a bit of a "s_t_r_e_t_c_h" to me. |

You need to get into contact with Kevin Ferguson (was trimtec trimming) - he reproduced all the inserts for the '65 ghia. Not 100% exact but the closest you will get as it is an unusual pattern!
Mine had faded to a grey colour (apparently beige) so I think even if you are lucky enough to find an original car with an OG interior it won't actually be a very good guide anyway.

I've attached a photo of my interior with the fabric that I got from him, I haven't stuck with the complete OG look -

Do a search on the samba and Google, before placing an order with SMS auto fabrics. _________________ ----------------------

Thanks to everyone who has replied and for taking the trouble to download the photo's etc.
I should have clarified that my Ghia is a T34 not a T1.
This is a T34 colour chart for 1965. What I cannot understand is that there is clearly no dog tooth or cross stitch (call it what you want) pattern on these cloths and yet they carry the same interior codes and names as the T1 brochure dmp has attached - 66, 67, 68 and 69 - so something is just not adding up unless VW made two entirely different interior cloth ranges for the two Ghia models but gave them the same code numbers and names.
