Here's my idea of what I think you are talking about . . . CNC machined, Laser-engraved, 6mm thick solid oak . . . did I do okay?

I like it.. Just one (okay, maybe two) question (s)... 1- are the numbers and logo at the top engraved? and 2- although I don't think anyone would leave one in their tank for an extended period of time. have these been coated with some sort of fuel-proofing? _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

How about a tip of the hat to vwuguy, who started this thread. Without his original contribution, (which really wasn't good) these may have never seen the light of day.
Kudos to all! _________________ sent from a phone using poor grammar and spelling |

Hello I was thinking about doing something like that in 3D printing, do you thinks it is feasible ? _________________ Fred

You will need a fuel and alcohol resistant material and a fairly large 3D printer to find one with a large enough bed. With that you could print several at a time. _________________

... fuel gauge stick? Is so easy to just look into a fuel tank with a 100 mm cap to see the level... have never run out of fuel or flipped to reserve in my '55... my old Zwitter was different... needed a stick for that for 20 years... have a '55 now, with 100 mm... nice.
... if I ever make some fuel measuring stick gauges, i'll hand 'em out to you guys, at no charge... that way, no one could complain... good Karma too. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Your Zwitter should have had the same sized filler neck as the '55. That was used from '55 and down. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Everett, Dave, stale air . . . . THANKS for the complements!
Dave, The design is laser engraved INTO the oak . . . the depth of the engraving varies in places where the density of the wood varies, but it avarages about .020" deep!
As for a "fuel proof" coating . . .
They have two coats of oil-based wood stain . . . however, I would not recommend storing the stick inside the gas tank between fill-ups!

Great job on the gas stick. I like it.
Regarding storing it in the gas tank. Some time back there was a post of a guy that found a gas measuring stick in his tank when he pulled it to clean it.
He had the car for years and never knew it was in there.
Have a great day. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Mine also showed up in the mail and I'm very impressed. Extremely professional appearance with deep, clear markings, solid feel, and perfectly beveled edges. Outstanding job, Mark.
