I'm checking my end play.
I'm unsure what I need to have tightened down in order me to check the end play. I'm assuming just the case (the Bentley shows checking without cylinders on). I hope it is just the case, because I don't have my heads on. This is bad, right? Anyways, here is a video.

Yeah, if you can hear/feel the endplay, there's too much! The VW guy I work with does endplay in short block form, aka no cylinders and heads. You should only need the case together because the endplay rests on your thrust bearing (the one by the flywheel). You either need more shims, or just thicker shims. I've only built one engine so take my advice with a grain of salt. Surely a VW vet will come along and say I'm wrong if I am. Good luck. _________________ 1969 Rust Bugget AKA "Blitzkrieg" |

I set endplay in short block form, 2 shims, indicate to determine the 3rd shim. |

Thank you. I "tested" my end play fine then. How does it sound/look to you guys? I'm going with it sounds hideous. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

measure it and then you can figure out what to do next -- but it seems like excessive play.
if you don't measure it, then were all just speculating and guessing _________________ Turbo 2276 MS3X build http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=673125

Because I don't have a micrometer. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

Yeah... I just don't have one now, and I'm deciding to break into it anyways. I might get one later though. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP
