Here is the donor for the trailer, you can also see the Westy in the back ground. The plan is to cut the remaining sections off the trailer and fabricate a steal shell around a tubular frame to hold supplies for camping, bikes, and a A/C unit. I will explain the design later

Sadly no, I would love to but I have to work. Have fun and post some pictures of it.

Can't wait to see the progress!

I'm afraid you might inspire to restore my old Champagne Westy. It certainly could use some work. But I don't really have the time or money for that right now. So I guess I'll enjoy the show.

Sweet.
So you're not going with the original paint color?

Looks like a fun project!

Although, I do like the classic brown and white Champaigne paint scheme. . .

have fun making it your own!

A Champagne Edition !

If you're going to change it from Champagne Edition specs, do NOT paint or throw away ANY of the brown parts ( steering wheel, horn button, wiper and turn signal stalks, steering column surround, dash, shifter, window winders, rearview mirror, gauge cluster, ashtray, grab handle, door pulls, glove box ) people like me NEED those items. Black versions of those items can be found any second of any day.

Also, don't paint those chrome bumpers either !!!

Sell off any of that plaid material. I'd be interested in the carpets, plaid possibly the curtains. Definitely a few Champagne Edition parts.

Sounds good. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will be able to tear into the westy

Good progress on the donor bus tonight. I pulled the engine and transmission and much to my surprise it has a GE engine code block and a 6 rib transmission. I have decided to have the trans freshened up and put a taller 4th gear in for cruising speed and replace the brass sleeves with stainless steel units. As far as the engine is concerned as long as it has good compression I will just tear it down and freshen it up with new seals and gaskets and install some twin carbs. This sure seams to be the best value and hopefully some extra pony's. I am also considering ordering a Vintage Speed full stainless exhaust system.

Good luck on the project! I will buy any/all brown parts you remove out of your champagne. Smile

Learned something new tonight. If a GE hydraulic valved engine sits for years the oil in the lifters will drain out and you cant get a good engine compression reading off of it. I am going to have to break it down and do an old fashioned freshen up. Do you guys know if a set of larger jugs are available for this engine? While I'm in there I better boost her just a little

Stripped down the chassis today, what a mess! Half the way through I had to put on a respirator because the rust cloud was insane. On Sunday I will need to V-notch the frame rails. I am going to send it out after that to be media blasted

Today I pulled the motor out of the westy and test fired it to see if it runs. Amazingly it ran very well. A little smokey, I will still tear it down and freshen it up.

I'm back.... I have been sidetracked lately building a Porsche 944 race car for some friends. It got moved to the driveway today so that I can do the tear down on the engine for the Westy. I also got to do some media blasting in my new media blasting cabinet. I think that this will help with putting out a better product and cut down on prep work. I did a test run on an engine tin piece and I think it turned out fantastically.
