Thank you Mark for the pictures. Projects this epic are not possible without the great input, photos, and knowledge we get, and have gotten, over this past year from folks all over the world. Thanks. |

I was surprised to see this project listed for sale on oldbug.com tonight.
I was momentarily tempted, until I realized how much work remains to be done. I wish I had the skills but I wouldn't even begin to know where to turn to complete this as a fully-restored, turn-key car. And of course that would add a huge amount to the final cost. Someone with more viable options will have a spectacular treasure.
I love this thread and hope to see it carried through to completion. _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

Thanks to everyone again for following this build. To Answer some questions regarding the car being posted for sale; I have came to a very difficult decision with possibly having to part with the car in order to fund a joint property venture on a historic home that is been my family for generations. If the car Finds a new home then it does; or it may not. I plan To continue on the same path with the car with Jason until a deal is struck. I Have committed myself to the path that we have taken with restoration work of the car, and I and Jason will continue to see that path through as long as I am the owner. It is also very very important to me that any new owner will do exactly the same. It Is very likely that Jason and his son will continue their involvement with the car even if it does change owners. We have set this car in a direction to Be one of the best restored 47’ Beetles in the world when it is completed. Wether it is I, or someone else that sees this through to the end, it will be a spectacular car, and a part of a historical time in VW history. There has been some inteterested parties from both Europe and the US, so we will see what happens.
For any of you possibly interested, If you have been following the build thread, You know that once the metal work is complete the car basically need paint and primarily assembly. There Are a few things still required for parts but most are aquired, many already restored, and most of the “heavy lifting” has already been done. The estimated remaining budget on the completed restoration is about $27-35k. (that is based I pretty accurate and detailed budget that I have been using for over 18 months now.) Any questions, please feel free to PM me. Thanks again everyone. |
