We have been rolling the 47 around taking care of lots of little details and finish work. I went this evening to take multiple measurements and contour readings off my buddies 48, I am confident now I have the measurements I need to complete the dash.

Thanks for posting, this is the one thread I look for every time I log on.
Two things:

1: This is so inspiring I feel like I want to take on a project like this. Then I remember that I did and discovered that I hate welding and grinding.

2: My '59 has lots of gas welding all over the car that was done at the factory presumably where spot welders wouldn't work, are you going to duplicate that as well?

Yes whereever there is a gas weld we put a mig weld to replicate it. ( for that real authentic look I have turned down the gas in the mig just enough to add some extra poors in the weld witch really makes it look like a OG gas weld, not very structural though, so be careful)

We also use the Tig welder in spots like the very top tips of the front and rear aprons where it attaches to the body because Tig weld can lay real flat, more like the original gas weld. Cool

Nothing very exciting to post this week on the 47 we have been going around bumping highs and lows, finish grinding and welding pin holes. I did have a very successful trip to mic the 48 dash. I was able to get real accurate measurements using the contour gauge though out. The flat section of the pod where the emblem is was considerably smaller in size then the practice pieces I made. Im feeling confident in the measurements we have now. 👍

After a few examples pressed in the beadroller I have come to the conclusion that I just can’t get the depth needed to match factory so....

I have decided to press the part. So far it has gone well, I feel I’m about 90% now, the depth is finally there now I need to fine tune the opening size I I believe we will have it.
