Don't do it, the vibrator is a voltage regulator, bypassing it may result in smoke. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

And "smoke" equals burnt wires in your gauge and sender rheostat.
Wait for the vibrator.

it takes about 10 minutes, but it will let the smoke out.
We will not discuss how I know this. _________________ Current VWs:

See when the assembly of most electrical/electronic things made all have the puff of smoke in them. This is one item you don't want to let the smoke out of. Go to a swap meet and source out a used speedometer for future parts. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

My limited experience with a Bug gas gauge is, if you apply a direct 12v to the gauge the needle will go instantly to full. If you don't remove the 12v after about 1 second, the 12v will cook the fine heating wire wrapped around the small bi-metal strip that activates the needle. Alas, smoke.
Like others have said, ask me how I know. |
