Just returned from a great van trip to Baja. We covered about 1500 miles below the border and beach camped on the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. With all the rain this year the desert was green and lush most of the way, with wildflowers stretching off into the distant hills like I have never seen there before. We were in 7 Vanagons and 1 other van, with 16 people traveling in them. Our stated goal was to visit the grey whale calving lagoon at San Ignacio while camping in nice places before and after that moving experience. There were no significant van issues, just a tire with a slow leak, a solar panel that rattled loose on a washboard road, and a van that once didn't want to start for a few minutes.

There were not that many other gringo vehicles on the roads but we did run across various other Vanagons, many of them Syncros. One joined us at the whale lagoon and we made friends. The others were just oncoming vans we passed as they went by the other way on the road, usually flashing their lights and waving.

We stayed at 3 camps that charged a small fee and 1 camp that was free.

Sorry we didn't run into you. Just having breakfast in San Ignacio and on our way north via Catavina.
We only met 4 other Vanagons the whole trip and I ran into two people I met at Syncro Solstice in 2012.
