Need a little (lot) of help figuring out a knocking noise in the back end of my '74.

I get a knocking that sounds like a bad CV when I accelerate in 3rd & 4th gear. However, I only get it when I am accelerating in those gears. If I'm at speed and let off of the gas, the noise goes away. I don't get it at idle. I either don't get it in 1st or 2nd, or it's too quiet to hear. It doesn't seem to vary with RPM, but it's frequency varies a little with speed. Very little.

I'm not thinking that it's the CVs since they are all new six months ago, but I'll rule that out this weekend.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Cheers.
