|
|
Been working installing the headliner in my October 1958 ragtop. I have watched Chris Vallones video and read all I can find on the Samba concerning headliners. The headliner used in Chris's video has a plastic strip sewn in where the liner attaches to the "grippers" around the sunroof opening. The headliner I have (Lenny Copp) does not have the plastic strips. The plastic strips are fit into the grippers and hammered upward to create tension. Can I just glue the cloth inside the gripper then hammer them upward? What is the best way to proceed? Any suggestions from those who have been there would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'll preface this with the fact that I haven't installed a headliner. BUT I have worked with fabric before. I'd be hesitant to just hammer the un-reinforced fabric into the grippers depending on how tight your headliner is. I'd be afraid of ripping. Maybe head down to stores like Hobby Lobby, Jo-anns and see if you cant find anything similar to reinforce it. You could probably get away with fabric glue, and a hand stitch through it to keep it secure. But again, thats just my 2 cents since I haven't installed one before. Good luck! |

I have some narrow plastic that I have considered glueing and wrapping the headliner in then inserting into the gripper and hammer tight.
Thanks!
