I mentioned in another thread that this early notch was purchased by Gizmobob and it has been delivered to San Diego. This notch had been for sale on the Samba for a few months without it being sold. In late December 2016, I traveled with Lee Hedges to Arizona to retrieve the oldest known T34. Once I got back the ad popped up and I felt that this vehicle need to be in good hands. Knowing Bob's passion for early notchbacks, I emailed him the ad and mentioned that I thought he might be one of the few people who would have would be able to get this car restored. A few days later I got a reply that he bought it and was working on the transportation to deliver it to MY house. It arrived late in March 2017. Current plans are to collect needed parts and start on the bodywork. The car is very complete with many early correct parts and has a few things I've never seen before. I will try and document the findings and progress.

I love the long days of summer as it gives me extra time for car work. Decided to tackle the first rust repair area. The car came with an extra front grill from a 66 so it fits with modification. It's been a while since I didn't a cut and weld project. I still am bad at cutting, a touch better at welding and becoming an even better grinder than I became when I finished my 65 notch.

First step to cut out the area

Then weld in the new pieces

As I was finishing up, Clatter's thread popped into my mind. I use to wonder about his obsession with filling in pin holes, shaking my head each time he posted pictures of the chase. Now that I'm welding and grinding, I too am chasing the pin holes and it is addicting. I will finish this area on the inside once the body comes off the pan. Yes it will be. Alan off resto since the pans need to be replaced.

I'm still looking for a good early engine lid and hoping I can find a set of the uber early pop out seals. I know where a set is but the owner doesn't want to sell.

Haiku can help with pinholes.

Sometimes..

Stoked to see this one come up to the top again.
A worthwhile project for sure.

Still plugging away at the metal work and rust repair. Rear shelf needed to be replaced but finding an NOS or good used one is nearly impossible. Pedro came by and brought his head roller and we made one. Not sure 100% correct but it will be covered.

Next area that needed work was the right side pop out and C pillar. Same thing, I had the fabricate my own piece. Trick was getting the screw on late and the seatbelt plug located in the right place.

Here's where the project is as of today. One thing that I'm doing that Pedro taught me is to refurbish some parts along the way and not wait until it needs to be put back on the car. Plan is to replace the pan halves, clean up, paint and detail the front end, and have the transmission resealed, cleaned up and painted. I'll paint the axle tubes and the wishbone too

So many nice early car builds going on right now. The rear deck looks really good, should have had Pedro make a couple extra to sell.
