|

Guys,
Forgive my silly questions, as I'm still a novice. I posted earlier this week about a series of trouble codes my van has right now, and one of them related to failure of the engine coolant temperature sensor. I ordered the part - one of the green ones that comes with the o-ring and clip, and I watched a dozen videos of people installing them in various vehicles.
The trouble is that none of the videos feature an actual Eurovan, and I can't figure out where this thing is on the EV. Searching various forums wasn't particularly enlightening, as most don't have pictures, or feature extreme closeups that aren't much good to a doofus like myself.
Can I access this thing through the engine bay, or will I need to jack up the van, remove the belly pan, and get at it from underneath? If anyone happens to have any pictures, that'd be particularly useful.
Thanks for your help - you guys rock! _________________ Farfignewton! |

I'll dig my pictures up,
Engine bay, from bottom, it's towards rear of engine, but towards front of car.
It's. Moderate to access once you find it, but you can see what you are doing.
Belly pan open but removal not necessary _________________ .ssS! |

Trust me, it's much easier than changing one out on something like a MK4 VW. It is at the same location on the engine though. |

So it's got to be accessed from underneath and not from over top the engine bay? Abscate, if you do have the pics, it would be helpful. Checked with my mechanic and they want to charge me for 1.4 hours of labor. Not if I can avoid it! _________________ Farfignewton! |

It can be done from above if you're willing to feel around. It's sorta in the middle between top and bottom so it's half-dozen either way. I'd do it from the top just because then you don't have to pull the pan and be on your back. You might get a better view from the bottom though.
Anyways, the clips make it easy to swap. Unscrew the coolant ball (but don't remove tubes) to get it out of the way. Feel the wires that end up with clips over the sensor. Pull the clip (it should pull straight up very easily) and then the sensor will pull easily too. Then disconnect from the wire harness. |

I would not recommend seating the sensor and clip by feel unless you have done this before and can visualize it. I would drop the pan. _________________ .ssS! |
