Today, My dad bought what we think may be an NOS factory replacement engine at an estate sale in the suburbs of Chicago. The people running the show said the owner bought a new Volkswagen and the engine at the same time from a local dealership. We don't have any plans for it, but it is cool to have 😀

Darn neat. Pretty rare to come across an unused one!
The original purchaser must have been estimating that they would probably needed a back-up in the future, just 'in case' something bad happened to the car's engine, but wound up never needing it.. _________________ Be kind to all critters. America's "H8TERZ" can drink sludgy used Motor Oil!

Damn! and for a bus as well, nice score!
How about some well lit close ups from every angle so us factory stock nerds can drool and have some reference material? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That's funny, I never looked at the tin, I was concentrating on the exhaust _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Ok, I'll show my ignorance...what's is the part that protrudes from the carb above the fuel pump? Some sort of pressure regulator? _________________ '65 Sunroof Bug |

Combination throttle positioner/decel valve/altitude compensator, found on 69/70 models (bug and bus) before the controller portion moved to the body and the part on the carb was replaced by a simple dashpot. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It looks like a 68 engine based on the probably 205M short cap distributor in it. Also another give away that it's a bus engine not mentioned is the dome top fuel pump vs. the square top that would had been on a bug engine.
Those throttle positioners first came out in 68 but that looks like a 69 version of it. Is the carb a Solex 30-2 PICT? Looks like it.
What's the yellow sticker on the fan shroud say? As Busdaddy asked, how about a LOT more detailed pictures for us bone stock original engine fanatics!
BTW, is it for sale? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

And for more telling info, look at the heater box arms, you know they are on the top.
Look for production date codes on the muffler and pressure plate. _________________ Rick

Thanks for all the extra pictures of that amazing find. Love them and my purist heart is all pitter patter over them!
Any chance he could snap a couple more pictures? I'm curious as to what is securing the steel fuel line that's running from the inlet on the pump back to the rear of the engine. I can't see a clamp or fuel line holder on the driver's side of the fan shroud? Maybe the fuel line clamp is obscured in the picture? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Also,
Am I reading that yellow decal correctly? Is it actually a remanufactured engine with new ancillary parts on it? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Anyone else notice this extra spring above the idle mixture screw in this picture? I've never seen that before? What is it for?
Never mind. It's the end of the bowden cable that's folded down there since there is no oil bath air cleaner in place. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
