I know the different combinations have been discussed a lot, but my question is a bit specific and I could find an answer searching.
Pics of my Thing are in my gallery, it's lifted, has wide rear fenders and wide wheels and tires.
I'm a bit tired of the look (I bought it this way) and I'd like to go with stock width rear fenders.
Here's the question...with a moderate lift and stock fenders, would 6.5" BRM wheels work or would they be too wide? |

I like these wheels and have also thought about installing a set on my Thing, which has a stock suspension.
Does anyone know the offset or backspacing of a Thing's stock 14x5 steel wheel? |

Offset: 32.5mm
Backspace: 4-3/8" |

Looks like the 6.5" wide wheel, with an offset of 12mm, or 4.3" would push the tires (205/65-15) out a bit. I might have a fender clearance problem with my stock suspension, but if your Thing is raised slightly you may not have any clearance problems.
Here's a side profile comparison of the stock tire/wheel setup and the 6.5x15 wheel with 205/65/15 tire.
The new wheel/tire is pushed out 3.9mm, compared to the stock combo.
