I recently purchased a 66 beetle built in CA and WA about 10 years ago. It is chopped and has a narrowed CB Performance beam up front. My question is...What the Hell is this control arm setup? The control arms are held on the torsion bars with bolts going directly into the end of the torsion bars. Not the conventional cross drilled "grub screw" setup. These bolts have worked loose and allow the control arms to separate from the beam. Not safe at all. What I am looking for is assembly instructions. Do the bolts get torqued? Do they stay loose to permit movement? Are they suppose to have retainers? Is there a source for this stuff or is it a "homebrew" setup? This is a very nice car and I suspect the design was popular awhile back but I have been away from VWs for many years and am not familiar with it. Thanks in advance for any information. |

Post some pics. Home built stuff is usually a creative mismatch of ideas. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |
