Yeah an engine and harness... he said the interior is complete and the poptop is all there. I don't know how much good metal there is but say I sell the interior for a grand, that's already making profit... He said he's gonna send me some more pictures of the frame this weekend. I did go and check this out the other day...

That will have an 010 auto, also referred to the 090 auto. I think they are an improved design over the early 003 automatics. I have put thousands of miles on my 1987 Westy with the 010/090 auto. But until something like 1984 or so they did not have any way to cool the ATF. Mine has two ports off the front of the case for this, where VW put an intercooler that helped cool the ATF by using the water jacket from the engine.

I eliminated that and installed a thermostatically controlled fan and cooler under my van.

Trust me, there is something quite novel about cruising around in a VW bus without a stickshift. Laughing

Arrow I thought you said you were going to stop looking... again. Razz

I'll see what I can do about it. He said cash talks, but he'll take trades. I'd trade the bug for it, but I don't know if he'll take it. If I had taken a screenshot of the ad that might have helped me talk him down.

Ehh things change Wasted Youth. I cant stop looking, I really want one. The '74 auto wasn't even an ad, my step dad found it through a friend or something. It was in one of his parking lots and the guy stopped paying the rent for his spot so now he can sell it.

OK< wait... Exclamation

Is this green one a 1974 or 1977? The 1974 has the early model 003 series automatic. The Master Rebuild kits for those are REALLY hard to find. I would be hesitant. The 010 still have a lot of support.

The newest pictures of the two tone green is a '74.

OK, right! I just noticed the camping gear arrangement. Yep, that's not 1977. I would keep walking, my friend. The 003 is a vacuum modulated shifter and needs the 1800cc engine with dual carbs. I have made mine work and shift with my 1700cc with the Weber Progressive, but it is not ideal.

I might have bought one of the last Master Rebuild kits in California for that, and the was like three years ago. They only ran those transmissions for a few years.

The 010 is not a direct exchange/upgrade, because the shifting is modulated by the accelerator... a very different arrangement.

Pretty sure it had the 1800 dual carbs in it still. The camping setup was so weird in that thing. Dual rear cabinets, a headbanger, and the sink cabinet was super small and had a tiny cushion on it... oh and a LiMBO sticker and an old CTVWA sticker. Decoded the m tag and it was ravenna green from factory, not Yosemite yellow.
EDIT: Isn't this a rebuild kit?

Yes, that looks like the right kit. If you want to get deep, rebuilding that is possible for guys like us... you just gotta be careful and take your time. But don't do it unless you need to.

More important things await.

As far as that cabinetry goes, start surfing those model years to see how it is supposed to be.

Ok, I should have taken a pic, it was just so odd. You can see the sink in this pic.

You don't need the ad to talk him down.

You need to get him thinking that his competition is you buying somewhere else. At $4000, that one will be available forever.

Start by realizing you have the most powerful one on the universe,

Youth.

You have all the time in the world.

The guys who think they can buy low and sell high dread you because you can sit on their markups while their cash is in scrap metal. Call them up and waste their time until they get sick of you and yell. Then they are ready to sell.

Okay so If I have that as an upper hand, how do I talk a guy down about $2500? Laughing I've been trying to think of a few things I could sell... Besides the bug, which I'd rather keep, I can only think of my welding skills. I can make a website too, but now they have websites that make websites so....
