I apologize if this has been posted here somewhere before. i didn't remember seeing it. A buddy sent this to me the other day.

I have to say, it looks like a pretty nice conversion without sacrificing what a Thing looks like. Definitely not a hack job.

I didn't watch the entire video-did he mentioned what the price of the conversion was?
I imagine it would be very pricey. |

Wow, cool!
Just this weekend, I was in Colorado Springs for a quick weekend. We were driving to go up Pike's Peak when my foster son noticed two beetles and a split bus all caravan-ing. On a lark, I decided it looked like they were doing something fun and decided to follow them!
Turned out they were heading to a guy's house after a VW meetup. They thought that it was super-cool that I chased them down, as I had driven to Colorado Springs from Manhattan, KS in my '78 Bus.
Anyway, relevant to this thread, was one of the beetles was an older electric conversion. The guy said he built it at/for/with the high school he taught at back in 1994. He said it was used for driver's ed for over 500 students over the years.
He let me drive it a few blocks. Was super cool! Like this Thing, it was really quiet and therefore a bit surreal to drive. Quite a bit different than my diesel-powered Bus!!
I think he said it had about a 50 mile range and could go up to 65-70 MPH. Batteries in the trunk and back. It wasn't quite as fancy of a conversion as this Thing, but was really cool. I wish he would have commented on the range of this Thing.
That's me on the left, next to his Voltswagen.

Our local utility company used to have a gutted out 60's beetle they used in live wire demonstrations. They would show the dangers of downed wires by arcing them to the car. It had big decals on it proclaiming it was the "Voltzwagen". I wish I knew what happened to that thing, I would have thrown an engine in it and driven the wheels off |
