I am hoping for help and I am hoping this is how a thread is started I have many questions and posted an earlier item but I guess I didn't do it right.
Mission Statement: I am 56 I got this bus when I was like 40 . It worked and I have traveled far and wide in this thing "Woman". Too many stories to tell I will post those later. I am now ending paying college for three kids and want to bring this back to better than I received it . I am willing to spend 10 k plus, I have started the journey from the ground up and I want to do this as close to original but I am open to ideas and improvements. Every piece I can I will powder coat , bumpers, heater stuff, muffler, propane tank etc. , even the seats, they wont squeak. Oh by the way I thought I was brilliant and rebuilt the top end, left the bottom end alone, don't remember why and so I had valves adjusted to spec and blew the bottom out at 100 miles at 70 miles an hour, dumb dumb dumb, break a girl in....so I begin again...the original rebuild was from leaving it sit...wires chewed the usual...
Here is the plan:
New tires, Yokohama touring 65000 mile, bought and ready with newly powder coated tires. Getting ready to order engine from AVP, thinking stock engine, they are going through some changes....ideas, mean time rebuild front and rear. I am not going to try and salvage old parts and rebuild., not a purist, new tie rods, new ball joints, new shocks, suggestions please Bilstein etc. new steering damper, swing arm just done, that was a story, new brakes even though hardly used ?? back and front, new rear cv and axles, of course the interior etc. .
Biggest challenges so far, green head rest, one, matching the vinyl for seats, matching the front vinyl pressed door panels green, carpet hmmm think I have a match from a samba link, all suggestions appreciated.
Also is there a change over from a distributor to and electronic distributor I have seen ??
Plus questions on holes in the body not seen on original, questions on front floor vinyl and how it looked. here are my photos to date

Freeee is good. I see your tires are mini van tires-they may not have the load rating you need. Here is some reading...https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162278 _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"
