car stalls on start up

Timing has been set, choke adjuster and carburetor adjusted. Recently, my 72 started sputtering out after start up. It will run for a few seconds and then die. The initial start is fine but subsequent stars are rougher. Is this a fuel system problem? Thanks.

Have you checked for any air leaks - squirt carb cleaner all around manifold to head joints and rubber joints to the inlet manifold to see if engine note changes. I had a very small leak at the back of one of the manifold to head joints which caused a very similar symptom.

Rubber fuel lines from gas tank may have fine enough cracks to keep from leaking gas out but leak air in when flowing. Happened to me in 2 cars.
