So guys, here was the first picture that Bob sent to me...my thoughts were, OK that's an interesting shape to put into one of my panels. ...looks different, I like it. ...pretty cool!
Then he sent me a picture of my dash. ...so my original thought was..."why did he take a picture of my dash? "...I'm look'n for new metal work, right...and I didn't get it at first.
Then Bob sent me this picture.
That's when my brain made the connection, duahhh! ....mind blown!
On this next pix, go ahead and zoom in and you will see the hood profile line already there
Hood panel getting a test fit
Just more pictures Bob sent to me
And finally, after my mind was already blown away. ..he sends me a pic of the rear fire wall.
All I can say is WTF Bob ...this guy has talent that just makes me cry...I mean, just zoom in and admire the detail of those creases
I'm very honored to have such talent building my panels...this Fiat Monster Baja is going to rock everyone's mind at the car shows !
Again, Bob has hit another home run and just knocked it out of the park!
Thanks Bob, you rock! |

No more pictures!....this forum is dead :2gunfire: ....I invest thousands of dollars into my build and do expect some sort of input, for the amount of pictures I've posted to replies, not worth my time anymore...seems like no one here appreciates a good build.(just how I feel)
Thanks to those who have followed me

Keep the pictures coming, this is going to be one awesome looking build when it is done! I may have missed it before, did you decide on engine combo/size? |

The engine I have planned will be a 2442cc TF1 case with a Scat racing flanged crank setup by Shawn Geers with BMW split bearings...that's what I have right now, Shawn hasn't shipped it out yet. ..he is a one man shop and busy trying to get engines ready for drag racing season. ..I will be doing the final assembly myself....I will be using CB Performance CNC Ultra Wedge port heads on this engine and will be using the Sniper 2300 2bbl EFI with RAD intake. ..a hydraulic stage 2 clutch will keep the big tires going. ..the engine should be around 225-250hp, the cost of this engine is somewhere around 9k, I needed to get the body work completed first so I put the engine on hold.
Bob Grant is doing such a great job on the body work...when he is finished I will need to get the body blasted and covered in a quality epoxy primer. ..my guess is that I will probably be working on this project atleast another year ...I made the body work for Bob extra challenging because I want the option to still remove the body from the chassis...the rear section of the car will have 8 panels that I will need to removed before the body can be lifted off the frame.
Early on I cut the stock front end off the car and was going to use a fiberglass vw one piece clip I picked up...this mod would require a lot of reworking the fiberglass to fit and look right, not to mention that most of you were upset that the Fiat's front end was gone. ..so after much thinking about the finished product and what kind of look I wanted, it seems that you guys were right to keep the Fiat front end. ...also, I did not want to be trying to explain to a cop why I have a Fiat title but it looks like a vw baja ...so for the sake of arguments, that was a good enough reason to reinstall the Fiat front end. _________________ Never be a follower...Do your own thing, make it your own! |

Well thank God!!! I was afraid of getting fired for checking this thread so often. At least now I can go back to the ordinary world I live in... Where bugs have less than four and a half feet of rear travel and Fiats have tiny little wheels. I swear I was developing an adjustment disorder because the disconnect from reality is so severe in this thread.
Please... no more, no more!!!
Well, maybe one more.
I'll check again in about 8 minutes, try to have something posted wouldja?
And don't bother trying to top the euro-craftsman-art coach building you just loaded up here. That is the pinnacle, so let it reign and move on down the other side of the mountain. _________________ 1966 Sportsmobile Camper https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

Most builds, to me, are a documentation of progress made on a particular car. I rarely comment on builds but enjoy reading and especially looking at the pictures. It's like car porn. I usually comment on threads where people have a problem they are trying to solve or need advice. Your car is already well thought out and expertly crafted. I enjoy this thread. I just don't have a lot to comment about other than Great Job !! _________________ My Build: '69 Baja - Dark Earth Version

I swear I have a problem ....I'm addicted to this Fiat project. ...my only connection right now is the pictures that Bob is sending me. ..and yes, I have a problem. ..I'm not there working on it. ...all I do is count down the days till I get home
FYI, I was kidding about the pictures ....I know that you guys are viewing this thread....I'm a truck driver and only do one thing, holding a frick'n steering wheel! _________________ Never be a follower...Do your own thing, make it your own! |

You're funny Buggeee, do you write professionally?
And no!...I can't do that kind of metal work, that is why I farmed it out. ..I figured you guys would be impressed _________________ Never be a follower...Do your own thing, make it your own! |

Um, atta boy? seriously, I am in awe of artists like that. Imagine how much they had to screw up to get that good. Did I mention the vaughn bros in the rat rod forum? _________________ My cut in half and rebuild thread

Geeze, what king of a trans are you going to mate this thing to? It better be something stout like a Mendeola box or something. |

I wish I could afford a Mendeola ...just a well prepped 3 rib. ..tranny guy told me it's good to handle about 300 ft lbs of torque and 250- 300 hp. ..I know that I'm pushing the limit on the trans but for now it's all I have to work with. ..as long as I'm not dumping the clutch too much I should be OK. _________________ Never be a follower...Do your own thing, make it your own! |

This may be standard fare on a "well prepped" VW trans of any sort now, but if it's not, I've heard a lot of good things about Weddle's 300M torsional input shafts on bus boxes that see shock load. Conceptually it sure makes a lot of sense, and word on the street is that, combined with a non-ceramic VW clutch with a spring/soft center hub makes VW transmissions in limited classes live a lot longer. My next bus box I'm building for my Chenowth will have those, as well as me experimenting with the weakest pressure plate I can get away with.
Do you know if you will be having an early or late 002? Or maybe even... pyramid case/5-rib? _________________ 1974 Chenowth 2RL #1244 Street Legal

I wanted to share the color I'll be using...it's monsterliner
This with black accents...black mirrors, steering column and bumpers...my mirror brackets will be similar to these
I was also thinking about doing some side bars but need to wait until the car's body work is finished, not sure how that would look just yet. _________________ Never be a follower...Do your own thing, make it your own! |

Um, your trolling us right? I mean, its a bitchin' monster truck color, but do you intend to bury the euro-craftsman-art coach building under 40 dry mils of alligator skinned rubber?
I vote for paint, but I'm not worthy to wash my drool off this machine. |
