hey
I have a 1966 beetle that I've been restoring forever and I'm getting really close to painting it, BUT I've run into a bit of an issue: the passenger side door was rotted away on the bottom so I fabricated my own parts and welded it up and it came out decent, however it just doesn't have the firmness of the drivers side, which is basically untouched, its a little flimsy, my solution to this is I have a set of "door braces" that I had hacked out of a set of (rotted away) convertible beetle doors awhile back. I've only seen them in those doors, one other convertible bug and a 74 super beetle and a few people I've talked to INSIST that they don't exist, so apparently theyre a little bit rare?
but finally the point to my long winded post:
I'm wondering if anyone has a car with the braces that they could measure from the bottom hole the window regulator mounts to in the center of the door straight up to the bottom of the brace, so I know where theyre supposed to go?
are convertible / late model bug doors longer or wider than my '66 would be? (pretty sure the anser is no but I know 'vert doors are a little taller) and thus these things would be impossible to install in the doors?
has anyone ever done this before?
as to why I can't just use a differint door....well I'd rather not say lol |
