|
|
I got this Roof Rack w/a bunch of other parts a while back, not sure what it fits, I was told its for a Bug,I does not look like the '70s Bug RR -clamps are different, lighter gage tubing, there is no tag on it, it won't fit a Bus & no one around here has a Bug to try it on. The legs are 42"-43" across.
Note the little square loop ^^^^^
And the funky clamp set-up ^^^
Looks VW to me, but what does it fit ?? _________________ Tom

Just measured mine. 42-43 is right for a bug.

Crukab, that looks exactly like the one I had, and it was a bit taller, so that when you opened your canvas ragtop ,the bows would clear the rack...you simply mount it, hook the hook under the raingutter, and turn that turnbuckle to tighten it down.
I never did figure out if it was a "special sunroof" roof rack, but it was nice not always banging the rack when I slid open the sunroof..
Hey, when you coming out to see your daughter again? That '60 Kombi is STILL sitting in the garage around the corner from my house... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

I have one of those racks, too. I have been told the little rectangular loops are for the leather tie downs of a canvas bag that fit inside the rack. I have never seen one though. Still searching. _________________ nothing |

Just another "I have one of those, too!" posts. The PO had it stored under a porch and the turnbuckles are in terrible shape, but maybe a few squirts of kroil will bring it around. It sits very will atop my '66 when testing, just have to watch for the pitch of the feet for front/rear placement. No leather came with mine, either.
I just noticed a difference in the turnbuckles in the 2 pictures. Mine are like Hippies, without the swivel at the end. Any movement is from the two prongs rotating on the lower rack bar.

Congrats! I added straps that look like that to mine- never knowing what they were supposed to be like! I wish there was more of your decal, but that rack is the nicest example I've ever seen of the earliest all-metal accessory in the VW dealership lit. _________________
