Sorry, I don't have the serial number, does anyone out there recognize what this case might be in this 67? Can't recognize the gray painted lobe under the distributor...Thanks for your help!

Go to the Technical tab https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php. I can't see the serial number in your picture.

Looks like H 5441999 Looks like someone painted it for some reason, either bad paint or case got too hot???

At the technical tab atop this page you will find a link to a VIN list. It starts with Bus so click on Bug. I'm not seeing an H case by itself. Likely restamped.

Cases are often painted when they are rebuilt to make them look all purty. Flaking paint on a case is as much and indicator of old rebuild as it is having gotten too hot. Heat cycles in an engine are a parts of it's multiple lives.

H5 typical case for 1500 SP engine.
