Just like the title says, is it a bus case?

I knew that, I was just wondering. If it was, I was gonna use it in bus I might get. If its not, which it appears to not be, I was gonna sell it to put more money towards the bus.

I have no idea what you're talking about... I'm more of a body man, never really done engine work. What is the thrust bearing?

Hi. Looks to be a type 1 case for the '68 and '69 model year, based off the H5xxxx id number. Prone to cracks and warping even 20+ years ago.
At a minimum you can look for cracks and torque it together and see if the center main web is spread. A cheapo set to calipers could help identify the main bores and thrust width. And you can easily view to see if case savers are installed. If it passes your inspection it might warrant a dedicated air-cooled machine shop to clean it up and have the expert eyes look further.
Bill.

complete with detritus and rusty studs I wouldn't value that over $50..
actually I wouldn't value that at all, in any unknown and neglected state.
but people do buy for crazy reasons at times..

Shocked first test will be to pull the top/flywheel side head stud-(should be counter bored deep into the block)-- pour in a little soapy water and apply compressed air.--check the flywheel side of the block for bubbles-- if it bubbles- you have a new door stop.

If that passes- Then take it to the vw shop for evaluation- I've built several with success- and one didn't make it to the shop.- so I figure 60% might be good- (another unscientific observation- your results may vary)

case savers are not to be left out-

Center cam bearing may be to tight.

oil galley plugs must be done--(when you see how easy they come out)

Have the case bolted up and see if the center mains are still round.
