I would say about 3-4 color and same for clear. Probably could have gone a little heavier on the clear. Used rustoleum, 3.98 a can at the depot |

Polished with compound. Still a little orange peel, not sure where to go from here, don’t want to sand too far. Might just run it like this. Has a slight matte shine to it, which I’m kind of digging

Thanks! Now my next project is clear coat the tail light housings, deck lid and sunroof and get the trim and windows back on. Then the wheels.
I want to do white on the outside ring and black on the inside with chrome caps. Probably just plastidip and glossify them |

Almost all the trim is back on. Then wetsand the remaining pieces and once it’s all back together hit it with 1500 or 2000 wet and polish

Looks fantastic!! Really like the way that rattle can job came out... I paid about $2978 more than you for my paint job.
Your headliner install makes me jealous, I am trying to start on mine this week but nervous about screwing something up that is not undo-able. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

I wouldn’t worry about the headliner, just make sure you have a heat gun and the glue will loosen back up if you screw up. My glue wasn’t cooperating on the windows so I used a hot glue gun. I sacrificed my fingers for a few days as I squeezed the headliner tight over the hot glue. Maybe some plastic pliers or something better than fingers is recommended
Also forgot to mention that I lost and then forgot about that decklid light cover so...now I get to paint that this week to color match the rest of the car. woo hoo 😬 |

Got a wild hair and decided to plastidip my wheels today. I like how they came out 😍
And the glamour shot...

That grey color selection looks fantastic!
When you first painted the doors inside I couldn't see where it was going, my head is always going to bright colors... but now that its here I can see it and it looks great! Very classic looking theme. Are you still going to do the white outer-rim of the wheels? Wow.
You are going to love driving this around town!!!
Congratulations on the very impressive results from your very persistent work. _________________ 1966 Sportsmobile Camper https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

Thanks! I’m still on the fence about it. I can always add it later. The plasti dip is super easy. Just use a can per wheel, 10 minutes between wet coats, for 4-5 coats. Probably can knock it out with one or two cans |

Ahh, yes! Way to go. The stock color scheme "hides" the extra width of the rear wheels. I did the same color scheme earlier this year on my '77 using 4.5 and 5.5" steelies. What method did you use to mask off the black centers? |

It was tough. Used blue painters tape and stuck it to my arm and hands to take away some stickyness, the put it around the base and shot 2 wet coats of white plastidip 10 minutes apart.
Pulled the tape right after the second coat. Next time I will wait for it to dry as it bumped a few spots and now I have to clean it up. I’m just going to use some card stock and spot paint my blemishes.
Love the look! And I kinda get a feel for white walls without the $200/tire price tag 😁 |

I remember seeing a thread where the OP used a syringe filled with paint to get to the separation line between the inner and outer ring on the wheels. _________________ **1971 Super Project

Installed a new distributor today, went from 009 to SVDA (both electronic ignition). Went to fire up the car and the accelerator cable broke!!!! Hahahahahahaha.
Made my own Shepard’s crook out of brake line and I’m pretty happy with it!
