I know this video has been mentioned on old threads but it is just a fantastic view into early beetles if you have not seen it.
At 34:42 a convertible drives by in a shot and the rear treatment appears very unusual to me - certainly a very, very early vert for a 1949 film.
If you need to see some very original, early shots of a split beetle this film is hard to beat even if you do not speak any German.

The best foreign film musical of the past century. All it needs are subtitles.
So many interesting things. One thing I saw were new Beetles with both large logo and nipple-type hubcaps in the same line-up, which indicates there would be some overlap.
Also, the car splashing through the water had some sort of prototype headlights, because they didn't look like the early postwar Kubel style.
The convertible may have been a prototype, created just for the film in anticipation of actual convertibles in the future.
Such an early film and so much to see. Thanks for posting it. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.
