There is a local craigslist ad that popped up for a "swing axle Tranny for a bug" for $150. Figuring it never hurts to have spare parts on hand i'm considering buying it for a spare. I just wanted to know if it will fit my 12v Type 1 65' beetle and anything else about it. He stated it was rebuilt and for a project. It has some axles that go with it as well. This is what he stated: (pardon his grammar)
"So the story is I purchased a Not quite done kit car from a guy. It was a 1970 Cimbria . It came with a single port engine with dual carbs and this transmission. They were in installed, the story is was given was they were in a yellow 63 that was featured in hot Vws . The bug was sold and the new owner removed the existing motor and trans and put in a FI engine and a different trans because he didn't like messing with the duals. It has fancy grey paint."
Here are the pics:
Think it's worth $150? |

Seems to be a '63/64 vintage 6V trans.
Has obviously been apart.
Good for an early 60's car.
Probably a 6 bolt ring gear. Wouldn't want to mate it to a real hipo engine and expect it to live very long. |
