|
6 months ago I put on a new soft top. I first repaired the top frame. To repair it and I removed the straps that go from the first bow, to the second and finally to the footman type loop on the body. Today to decided to put the straps back and got to looking and thinking why? Been 6 months without them and everything is OK. Now I ask what is the purpose of them?

Think just to keep the bar from getting out of place, or when you lift the top it doesn't stress the top pulling the other bar up... _________________ '56 pan Dune Buggy since '69

I went for about 30 years without those straps; just positioning the rearmost bow by hand. A couple of years ago, I installed "Thing Shop" straps with the velcro closures. The only advantage I can see to having those straps is to help putting the top up quickly when single handed.
I do this a couple times a year (when I get caught in the rain) by standing in the back seat and lifting the top up over my head. I haven't done it yet this year, but I do have a road trip to Corydon, Indiana coming up this July |
