Well we made it to Washington and back for the Avery's meet this weekend! Lots of fun, hope some of you were there! I did however need about 6qts of oil for the trip, as she still leaks like a mofo. A 4 day weekend is coming up and I'll likely tear out the engine and do every seal I can and look at whatever I can. She's a trooper!

I did notice she's kinda squealy since we got back, however. Low RPM mostly in any gear, on the clutch or not.

Also - is there any way to tell what company may have owned my panel van, if one did, prior besides a defining side logo? I've discovered stripes along the whole car, and am yet to find what is on the doors. There may be flames there or there may be a design - I'm not 100% sure yet as I've not taken down all the paint. I'm hoping if there was a logo it was on the doors or something, as it's not on the upper rear panels, the slider has been replaced, and the other wall obviously has a window and a ton of bondo in it.

Oh, and today after a big bump, the spot welds connecting my window to the winder broke. Luckily the window was already down, so it didn't shatter or get damaged, but I can't roll my window up now. Fun stuff! I'll get it fixed tomorrow at work.

Getting to removing the Orange paint down to the blue with a lot of wet sanding, mostly for fun! There's a lot of bondo on the car but that's OK.

Going well, though! Slow but well.

Having issues - still have that biiiiig leak at the front (front of car) of the engine. I also realized the oil is super thin, which made me think "I'm still running winter oil!" 5W30. I'm going to kick that up to 10W40 and see if that fixes the leak, as it may just be super thin. Once I've parked for a second the leak comes to a stop quickly, and still leaves oil in the car. It's either that or the seal, as far as I can guess. If y'all got suggestions let me know.

Well, she seems to be good - however I'm having issues wherein she's leaking oil like a mofo from the front (toward front of car) of the engine. Maybe I need some thicker oil now that summer is coming around, but I have a feeling she needs her seal changed.

She also seems to hold a charge now, but since Blue is down for the count I'm carrying his battery around with me, too.

I got a new belt that fits well, if not just a little bit loose with no shims. What's the 100% correct stock size belt for a 68? My pulley is different but isn't a Power Pulley as I thought it was

I also fixed the lights, everything except the turn signals. They're shorting somewhere and the front left won't work, however the rest will either blink quickly or stay on entirely, you can hear the "blinking" inside the car going nuts when you turn one on. Turns out the fix was the fuse for the lights fell out still going to get a new harness installed, however with the lights working it's not a major issue right now. I'm going to put the money toward getting Blue back on track, starting with cylinders and pistons come this next cheque.

So, went to look at wiring and whatnot before going and getting the harness tomorrow (too busy last week, didn't make it to DIP before 4), think I embarrassingly figured out why the battery wouldn't charge. That extra wire off the battery cable that I originally asked about goes to the voltage regulator, plus the green wire for the generator wasn't plugged in (probably fell off, actually, as it was pulled back there and very close.)

I'll figure out come tomorrow if she'll charge or not. However, still getting a harness for the lights and whatnot being messed up.

Well, she's down for the count until I can afford a new harness and the time to put it in. In the mean time, I'm working on Eiche (see my signature for the beetle!) and Blue is still going strong.

Sounds familiar, flip the ring and pinion gears.
If the motor is in need of a rebuild a reverse camshaft is the answer. I wonder how readily available those are these days.
If I had that engine, I certainly would be searching here and elsewhere for info on the swap. I wonder if qualiity parts are more easily available than for ACVWs?

Had time and light after work today, so I decided to try wet sanding Frau's orange paint off one of the panels, and I gotta say her blue looks beautiful underneath! I want to maybe take as much as I can down to blue until I can get her painted black. No pics right now, phone's broke, but I'll get one up ASAP!

Question unrelated to Frau, can Corvair transmissions be placed in an early bay? I know the engines can go straight on a VW trans, but not sure on the trans setups.

Well, I gave her another ouchie today. Oops! Backed into a sturdy mailbox at 3-5 mph. Luckily nothing bad, and the bumper needed replaced anyways. Still feel bad
