Back in December I bought an early slash deluxe rear bumper off craigslist for $100 and upon meeting the seller he told me where the bus was but it wasn't for sale at the time, the actual owner used it to store his Harley Davidson parts in it and no one was allowed on the property to go see it because he was in his words cantankerous as they come but it would be his to sell when he passed away. I even tried to pay $100 just to see it in person because what ever it was I knew it was a deluxe based off his description.
Figuring I'd never get the bus, I sold the rear bumper on the samba and that was that. 7 months later I'm on Craigslist again and theres the bus my bumper came off of. 63, inward vents, walk thru. It had been there in that same spot since 1974. Two guys traveling to New York broke down on the highway and gave the old man the bus and a pair of binoculars for two greyhound bus tickets to get them to New York.
Fast forward to 2017 this guy now owns it because the cantankerous old guy who got it in 1974 had passed away and now he was ready to sell it. I wish he would have called me direct but needless to say I bought the bus and the rest is this build up. I haven't done a bus topic in years here so here it is now.
'El Pavo' basically means 'The Turkey' in Spanish and since it is a Turkis bus I just ended up calling it that. I will update as often as I can as I am trying to have it at Prado show next year so I have some time. I am working on multiple cars at once so I'll try to squeeze in what I can when I can. Hope you enjoy the story.

My buddy KC was behind pulling it out. After cutting down trees and dragging a completely locked up set of wheels through slippery mud we got it out thanks to his 4x4 dually. Check out the video below for part of the action lol

Got it loaded onto my truck and trailer then it was off to get started on this thing. Plan is to leave all the original paint but yet take care of the roof top since 95% of the paint up top had simply peeled off.

After a quick run through the car wash, I was able to get all the mud off and the moss and lichen that had grown onto it.

next is a lot of clean up. I used 409 and a tooth brush to do the panels. No middle or rear seats but those will come later in the story.

Now its time to get this thing off my trailer. All 4 wheels were locked up tight as a safe. Thanks to advice from here in the bus forum, I got a drum puller and proceeded to free up those drums to unload it.

Seats are such a nightmare to find nowadays and shipping sucks. My buddy John Dietchmann came through had both middle and rear for me plus he's only 20 minutes away. No shipping. He gave me a killer deal on both seats. My bus although it is a walk thru came with a full length fold down middle so it was just what I needed. I need to weld the deluxe luggage bar tabs on my upper rear then I'm set.

After sanding the top of the roof down, next was to etch prime it and paint it matching bleu weis / turkis. Since all this has been done already I will just post pics after I did it. make it go by faster.

Color code matched laquer cans from Tower Paint after I water sanded the primer down with 1500. Next Ill hit it with 1500 again, wet sand and polish the top.

For the rest of the bus I just use TR-3 resin glaze to bring the shine back.

Picked up some nice but used but OG como green middle and rear seat covers and kick panels from CJ Smitty at Sac bugorama and Patrick Hall picked them up and shipped them for me. My upholstery guy will recover my seats using these. He said Nooo problemo

Im going lowered with a straight axle type 3 trans and narrowed beam so at OCTO last weekend I picked up my offset spring plates from a cool dude who gave me a good deal on a set of plates.
