VDO is still making their originals which is what I installed in my 70' after reading the horror stories about the Chinese ones that most are peddling. |
Apologies for the hijack, but where did you get it? |
I bought my new VDO from the site below; the one bookmarked is for my '58 Ghia (hence 280mm length). Scroll their site though and they have about every length available.

X2 apologies for the hijack. |
I'm curious Pete. That VDO you bought; did it say what country is was made in? Mine was made in Brazil but looked perfect and identical to the original German made one in my 70' bus. I bought it three years ago at BusDepot. They don't list it anymore but other places do.
Skim, did the one from WW have VDO on it or was it not marked? If it's not marked VDO, it's likely that it's a POS aftermarket one. You may consider returning it. In the bay forums, the only senders that actually work are the VDO's. The Chinese ones have the wrong material on the floats inside them. They fill with gas and sink, thus the gauge no workie. |
It’s Brazil as well, and has been working great for almost 2 years now. That egauges site I linked to has the VDO senders in just about any length imaginable from 150mm long on up. |
Damn I wish I knew sooner. Well I hope this new one from WW works out. _________________ GFK

If it was me? I'd return it unless you want to yank the engine back out or cut an access hatch in. The bay guys all said I should cut an access hatch because of the terrible quality of the repro's. I didn't want to do that so I ponied up the $120 for the VDO gauge.
So far, 3 years of it working fine. Pls keep working! _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Replacing my shitty aftermarket sender is on my list of things to do when i pull my motor next. I never knew what I was gonna replace it with until now, though. |

Skim,
I put a couple of 6X9's in small pre-fabbed boxes under my middle seat along with a bazooka tube in the spare tire well and some 5" under the parcel. The nice think is the 6X9's are hidden but give good mid bus sound. I have pics in my build thread.

Which one is the correct size for a bus? Any difference for a 67 with the hump tank? _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

I honestly can't answer this question. Hopefully someone knows the right length tube for your application. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I don't know the size in mm, but some of the sites that sell repops group them as fitting 55-67 buses and 67-73 Ghias. If someone has a sender around from one of those maybe they could measure the tube length for you. Really easy to access a Ghia tank for measurement. |

I don't know measured original mm either, but supposedly....
271919051B = 185mm = Bus 1955-67, Ghia 1967-73
211919051 = Bus 1968-1973 (I've seen 205, 210 and 215 mm advertised) _________________ aka: Evan

I did get the rear hatch in some color today. It looks too nice. I thought I'd never say that but once I polish the rear of the bus I think it will all come together.
