I finally got a shop built to start working on my bug that is in desperate need of work. I will post as many pics as I can as I work on it and make progress. This is my first build and build thread so any advice and help is greatly appreciated. There is already a previous build thread on this bug on thesamba by the PO.
Here is what I have done so far:
Where it was being housed while my shop was being built
Shop finally complete
Driver side
Passenger side. A pillars are shot
Fenders off
Gas tank out
I have taken all of the chassis bolts out and have disconnected the steering column. Hopefully I will be getting a metal table to put the body on along with some metal cabinets for the shop. Does any one have any tips on replacing the A pillars and holes in the wheel wells? -Skydawg _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |

The Boeing plant around here is shutting down so I was able to bid on some items for the shop. I won six cabinets, six work tables, and some push carts along with a few vises that are installed on the tables.
Here's a pic of the tables and a few of the cabinets before I started organizing the shop. _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |

Got around to disconnecting the rest of the parts needed to take the body off (steering column, intakes etc) and pulled the body. The tables I won came in handy:

I've owned it for a little over 3 years. Swapped a '72 bay for it. I've installed a 1776cc motor _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |

That's EXACTLY the same work I need to do on my 66 bug project ...so, I'll be watching with interest. Looking forward to learning from your process! _________________ "If you can't fix it with pop rivets, crazy glue and duct tape, or hold it together with zip ties, velcro or magnets, it REALLY is broken." |

It's been couple of months since I've worked on my bug because of projects and other interests but here's an update. We purchased a solid original metal front spare tire wheel well from California and today we welded in braces and got the doors off.
I've started a list of sheet metal that we will need: heater channels, A & B pillars, front wheel wells, firewall and some other pieces. I hope that we can start getting those in in the next few weeks.
We are going to try building a rotisserie our self. If any one has any insight on a body rotisserie please let me know. _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |
