Hey all,

Just curious. I just bought a Moog driver outer tierod. It doesn't come with a retainer for the boot. It does have a grease fitting. Is this OK?

I'd say no. I've used a ty-wrap for a retainer on ball joints and tie rod ends.

Do you want a most likely inferior non greaseable end with a sealed boot, or a high quality greaseable end with a floating boot? Almost all the American car replacement ends have a floating boot. I have two of those moog ends with over 50k miles on them on my Super.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just wanted to be sure that the end was usable. I have the ends with the retainer on one side. I'll put one on each end and see how they both work. No big deal to change if necessary.

I've used Moog tie rod ends with no retainer on the boot before. They have a pretty snug fit so I didn't hesitate to use them.

I think there is a retainer in base of the boot, if you ever take a boot off and have to put it back on...

At least I know it was true with some other car I was working on at some point. I always go with Moog if I can, and always get greaseable joints too.
