Anyone seen a Nippon Denso air flow meter on a 1.9L Vanagon? I am looking at one that looks to be an exact copy of a Bosch for a 1.9L. Googling seems to suggest that Nippon Denso made some air flow meters under the supervision of Bosch, but I see no specific mention of one for a Vanagon.

Dunno about in the stock Vanagon engine platform, but my 2010 Subaru engine has Denso sensors all over it, including the sensor that controls the electronic throttle. I'm assuming they're good if they're the OEM sensor supplier for Subaru.

I don't see anything about 'supervision' per se in the links provided — licensing, yes. In all likelihood they licensed the design of a particular Bosch sensor in order to produce other sensors based on that design — which indicates that Bosch likely patented a particular sensor design that was good/unique enough that Denso felt compelled to copy it legally, vs. designing their own sensor for that particular application.
