Should I do it? Its getting too much for me. I'm finding hidden rust, something's wrong with the floors, I've got heater channels out, and I'm just getting frustrated to the point I don't even want to work on it. I'm thinking of selling and getting a '72 with little to no rust that just needs to be put together and have the new floors installed. So should I do it? Answer the poll and tell me what you think I could sell the bug for...

Can you hang onto the 67 and still get the 71? Didn't you say the 67 was your dad's or something? Maybe you can play the sentimental value card if it comes up. Sounds like the 71 would be a lot easier to get on the road, and once you get it going and can drive it you'll likely have more confidence to tackle the 67. You'll learn some skills working on the 71 as well.

The '67 has a ton of rust I didn't know about, the body is not sitting right, and I'm just frustrated. The '72 has very small rust from what I can tell and just needs to be put together... I don't think I can have both. My mom is already a little mad about the one Laughing It wasn't a family members, I got it as a gift, they used the money from another car I sold and surprised me with it. I'd love to keep both, but I think mom would be mad and I'd have to sell the '67 to afford the '72.

Why do you think the 72 would be any easier? You still have to put it together and deal with the piss poor parts available nowadays for that bug also.
Rust never stops as you found out.

It's got all the parts and I'll just have to put it together. Nowhere near as much welding or finding '67 only parts. I'll of course go look it over before I decide to buy it, but It seems like much less work.

Stick with it, you'll regret selling it. If you limit yourself to just one job at a time it won't seem so overwhelming. The other car may have hidden issues as well, at least with this car you know what you have.

Get rid of the '67--------they are highly over-rated.

Sell it to an enthusiast that will stick with it and finish it. You already have your mind made up. Every time someone says to keep it, you have excuses for selling, so sell it and get started on the 72. Just make sure you sell it to someone that wants to save it and wont junk it.

My mind is not made up... I don't want to get rid of it, but it really has rust everywhere and I don't know if it would be better if I get one that's got less rust.

"Projects" are worth very little $$ compared to a runner/driver.

Stick with it. Everything can be fixed. I just finished my project after 7 years. Glad I did it. And, I saved another one of these great cars from the crusher. You can too.

You will never fund one project by selling another project. See upthread on value. Keep banging those jobs, stay and work hard in school, put 90% of effort into safeguarding your future, 10% into your cars. Its fine if you don't work on your cars at all for while and just bank your budget.

Crusty old defeated old guys - be nice or don't post please.

I would step back and decide if you can finish it in a the time frame you want and within the budget you have set. I understand you're a younger guy and if you intend this to be your daily when you are old enough to drive, you may want to find something finishable within a reasonable time. Speaking from experience, I know what it's like to be 16 with a hunk of shit sitting in the driveway that you have too much money tied up in and it still barely drives or leaves you stranded. Especially sucks when your buddies are riding around in their functioning cars.... If you can keep it and tackle it later while getting something else, do so. If you have to sell one for another, get something fixable and driveable within a short time and sell the project.

I want to have it as a daily when I get my license next spring. My lawn mowing jobs aren't going too well... I've noticed that every person in my neighborhood either uses the landscapers down the street or do it themselves so that kind of shoots that idea down Sad Here's the '72... Just needs floors and to be put together it looks. The lady selling it has all the parts.

That '72 has the beginings of what is affectionately know as "death foam" rot. That rot is harder to fix than replacing heater channels. May as well keep working on the '67.

I don't see how swapping one project for another gets you into a driving car any faster. Keep going with the '67 and prove to your parents that you have the attention span and the perseverance to actually finish what you started.
