I have a special pie-after-50-miles clause in my race entry. Old timers special or something. _________________ I'm Joe

Betty's Pies in Two Harbors has the best pies on earth... |
Speaking as a local, I'd qualify that by saying that yes, Betty's has that reputation
(going back to the 1950's) but for consistently better pie these days go another
8 miles up the road to Rustic Inn in Castle Danger. Just sayin'...

Holy crap. At the rustic inn now. The pie is unbelievable. Thanks a ton for the recommendations. _________________

Having a boat load of fun (or should that read: van load). Started off in good old Cleveland, Ohio.
Headed north through Michigan. Drove some awesome forest roads. Camped in Huron National Forest.
Went to Mackinac Island. Went golfing at the Grand Nine. Absolutely beautiful. Crossed the Mackinac bridge.
Drove more beautiful roads. Got Pasties. Mmmmm.
Found another beautiful golf course, went golfing again.
Drove the coast along Pictured Rocks. Absolutely gorgeous. Lake Superior is just unbelievable.
Went camping at Lake Gogebic State Park. Really cool spot. Tried my hand at fishing (unsuccessfully) for the first time ever.
Onto Minnesota. Also beautiful country. Stopped at Rustic Inn in Castle Danger (best name for a town ever) for some grub and pie (read: Amazing Pie!).
Visited the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Hard to believe this mighty river all flows from this humble little lake.
Spent what seemed like forever driving in the middle of absolutely nowhere through north dakota.
Visited a really cool site called Knife River historical site. Learned a lot about the indians that lived here (sakagawa, often mispronounced Sakajawea, Lewis and Clarks interpreter and guide, was from here.) Saw this recreated hut they lived in, got our junior ranger badges, good times.
Here we are today, at Medora Campground in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Southeast North Dakota. They call this area Painted Rocks. It is gorgeous.
Ran into this guy. He bought this bus a week ago, drove here from jersey on his way to glacier national park. He has broken down every single day of his trip. Poor guy. Seemed to be having a blast though.
Tomorrow we are off on our way to south dakota to spend the rest of our honeymoon before heading back. I'll post more pictures as they are taken. Thanks again for all of the fantastic suggestions. This has truly been a trip of a lifetime and we have made memories we will cherish forever. You guys are the best and these vans touch our lives in ways we won't soon forget.
Thanks,
Jacob. _________________

You could have golfed in Medora also. I retired from a golf course management software company and one of our customers was located there. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |
