Well I,m reading that France would like to Outlaw /Prohibit/Elimimate all fuel burning vehicles by 2040 (that's 23 years away). I'm figuring others will follow suit soon enough. I remember a Dennis Quaid movie in which he pulled up to a kids party in a Shelby(?) As this was taking place a few years in the future his friend commented like?'Wow Internal combustion!, being a real rarity. So now get ready for that super efficient electric powered "antique" car of the future...or do we worry that even with electric drive they will be deemed unsafe and unroadworthy and thus outlawed except for display? On another sad note I see another article on motorcycle manufactures are worried when us older dudes eventually die off or dry up the market for Harley cruisers will go also. Geez I have my cars in mind as retirement asserts somewhere down the line...maybe not!

That's going to go over well, how will they pay for the new electric cars?

When the {[Electric Car]} term comes up, they are actually coal fired or coal charged. Wonder what an EMP will do to electric cars.

Depends how far into the future you want to look. Eventually, electric will be the only practical renewable source, from solar/wind/geothermal/hydro. But by then our personal driving freedom will have been taken away by the logical (and disgusting) extension of the self driving car concept. At that point, who cares how it's powered? Evil or Very Mad

My thoughts as well.

Personally, my belief is classic cars with be grandfathered in and allowed to continue to be used when the vast majority of cars on the road as self driving or electric.

We have to remember that the oil lobby is VERY powerful as is SEMA and other lobbyists in Washington that support the automotive industry. There's a LOT of talk that gas/oil will remain cheap and may even get cheaper to keep pressure on people from switching to electric cars.

France (and thier Euro buddies) essentially killed off gasoline for aviation 30 years ago, everything has to burn diesel or jet fuel now, it's not suprising that cars will follow. But no oil fuels at all?, how will they generate power to recharge all those vehicles?

Electric cars will never replace gasoline engines. There will never be more than 50% of the vehicles on the road electric. You have a better chance of Natural gas replacing gasoline than electric.

To be more clear from what I read:
They are thinking about prohibiting the SALE of new fuel burning vehicles.

This doesn't affect older or existing vehicles.

The only thing more scarce than oil is the minerals needed to make the batteries for the EV's that would be needed to replace the ICE. The electric car has been around since the invention of the automobile, but time and again the ICE is found to be superior. The wheels are coming off the bus for the entire anthropogenic climate change and by 2040 let's hope that ruse is fully exposed. Imagine the battery it would take to power a loaded semi up a mountain pass.

I would never underestimate the power of corporate controlled, money worshipping government officials to make bad decisions. If there is way to get all those 'dirty'
Cars off the road while 'forcing ' the purchase of a new efficient car, it will be done. Also since the majority of auto operators today dont understand what 'to drive' actually is...well we'll be safer withl the self driving cars,?save for the fact that having some mix of driven cars that will be bullying them outta the way! Now some of u even think that the combustion engine did not add to pollution warming?? Shessh,I'm out!

If we don't burn fossil fuels then the dinosaurs died in vain.

You can still ride horse down the street in many towns, but the writing is on the wall for internal combustion engines. Solar "tower" installations cost 1.2 Billion per giga-watt (1/2 the cost of other types of giga-watt capable energy sources) and the fuel is free. As transmission lines expand, gas stations will go the way of buggy whips and meatloaf dinners. The engines will phase out over time, probably faster than we would like to admit..look how quickly VHS's were phased out
